Explicitly stating the rationale & motivation for the PD while also asking participants about their personal "why" leads to a shared sense of purpose that fuels authentic learning.
Openly discussing the session design & learning plan increases participant buy-in & engagement and helps build a community of shared accountability.
Fostering trust is critical for deep learning by building learners' confidence to take risks & engage challenging concepts with persistence.
Using the "funds" of knowledge that participants bring as a foundation for instruction creates relevant access points for learners to readily engage, connect ideas, & make meaning.
Asking questions that challenge learners to think critically & deeply helps scale-up cognition towards subject mastery & conceptual change.
