The snake is drawing on a piece of bark in the woods when the butterfly approaches and says:
BUTTERFLY: Hey Snake, what are you drawing?
SNAKE: Hi Butterfly! I’m just drawing something I find beautiful.
The butterfly showcases its beautiful wings.
BUTTERFLY: Do you seriously think that’s art? That’s ugly! Look at my wings, that’s an example of real art.
SNAKE: Fine, if mine’s not art, how do you know your wings are?
BUTTERFLY: There’s one way we settle this, we go to Owl!
The butterfly, and the snake search the woods for a while until they find the owl who is asleep.
BUTTERFLY: Owl!
The owl wakes up, looking tired..
OWL: Sorry, you caught me during my nap, can I help you?
SNAKE: Sorry, we wanted help with an argument. We’re trying to figure out what is art.
BUTTERFLY: I think art has to be beautiful! My wings are art, because they’re beautiful. I know they are because when I walk past, everyone gives me compliments.
SNAKE: I think art is when you express yourself. Art is what you find beautiful.
OWL: Well, children, I agree with Snake that art is simply expressing yourself!
BUTTERFLY: But what if some of the expressions are ugly?
OWL: Well, what you might find beautiful, some might find ugly. Take colour for example, I like the colour red but someone else might like the colour blue, it doesn’t mean I’m right and they’re wrong, it just means we have different preferences.
BUTTERFLY: I understand now, Snake, I don’t like your artwork as much as I like mine, but that doesn't mean yours is bad. I’m sorry.
