Horse is wandering around in a fenced field. Deer approaches the side of the fence. Look each other up and down.
Narrator: There once a deer and a horse. The deer was cultured and lived for the forest’s natural beauty. While the horse had been in a field his whole life.
Deer: Hello Horse. How lovely it is to meet you. How lucky you are to be able to view the beauty of the forest every day.
Horse: What do you mean? It’s just some trees.
Zoom up on the trees and the leaves
Deer: Does it not bring you joy to see the delicate evergreen leaves sway?
Horse: No it does nothing for me. Obviously art has no function.
Deer: But it makes others happy, even if not you, and it can convey points and opinions.
Horse: Bringing joy is not a function but perhaps showing opinions is.
Zoom up on a poison dart frogs’ pattern
Deer: In the Amazon poison dart frogs are covered in bright colours which form patterns and even art.
Horse: But that has no function?!
Deer: But it does. It prevents predators from eating it.
Zoom up of abstract paintings
Deer: Some of the famous paintings in the world convey very important meanings and life lessons. Most abstract paintings stand for virtues such as order and purity. Reminding others of the importance of simplicity and spirituality.
Horse sceptically: Is that art’s only purpose?
Deer: Like most things it depends on how you interpret it.
Zooms in on a little stream
Deer: The sound of a river brings peace to some. The smell of a flower makes others swoon. Art is everywhere.
Back to the horse and the deer
Horse: But that doesn’t mean it has a purpose?
Deer: Well is this not a purpose to you? Is expressing opinions and making people happy not a purpose?
