Developing Learner Profiles
Resources for Schools and Colleges
Resources for Schools and Colleges
This section of the toolkit provides resources to support teachers and school leaders to start to explore and develop learner profiles, or e-portfolios, in their own settings and with their pupils and students. We are just at the beginning of this journey in creating materials and tools, and will be adding new content as we go.
Before starting to develop learner profiles, here are some of the main things you will need to consider:
Who is going to be the lead for this in school
Do you have the buy in and support of your Headteacher or Principal
Do you want to set up a small scale pilot, eg with a group of students and a class
How are you going to introduce the idea of learner profiles to students. Will they be involved in the design in any way
What will you use a learner profile for initially
How will pupils and students be supported to develop their profiles. What is the role of the teacher, personal tutor/pastoral support, mentor, coach
What support might other teachers or practitioners in your school need
What technology option will you go with
Will you use a skills or competency framework, if so, which one
How will the learner profile link to the curriculum and values of your school or college
WHO ARE THE MAIN STAKEHOLDERS TO CONSIDER WHEN DEVELOPING LEARNER PROFILES?
Student themselves
School staff and colleagues
Parents
Destinations: FE, HE, work based learning/internships, employment
Wider student body? (XP ‘Crew’ time idea)
