There's a lot of gear that the Troop provides for camping which you won't need to purchase. But if you're looking for some gear for your own use (perhaps after Scouts), some of this information may be useful to you.
There's a wide range of stoves available.
For standing camps, LPG gas stoves are probably the most practicable. There are some petrol stoves available, but these are pretty expensive and our Scout experience is that these need a fair bit of maintenance.
For hikes there are a number of good options:
Methylated spirits - e.g. Trangia. A great, safe, stove set that we rely on heavily in Scouts. Can be quite slow to cook for more than a couple of people on though.
Shellite - e.g. Whisperlite. Our personal favourite. Very portable and lots of heat power - simmering is a knack, but possible. Pot sets separate. You can also get a shellite powered Trangia - perhaps the best of both worlds?
LPG - e.g. JetBoil. Very popular for hiking; but you do end up carrying empty disposable gas cylinders around.
Many many options. Too many to list, and each year new models emerge. It's best to have a chat with us if you're eyeing off a tent.
If you're going to use it often, spend some money on it - cheap tents tend to suffer a lot of pole failures and leak after a relatively short period of time.
And different tents serve different purposes - a 20kg canvas tent is spacious and robust but no good for hiking, whereas a 1.2kg hiking tent is the polar opposite!
