What to bring.
Please make sure that you are in good health on the day, there is no fee for late cancellation or failing to attend.
Please bring your theories about fear and anxiety.
You may wish to record your impressions and thoughts whilst in VR, if so, bring a recording device, or ask me to make a recording for you.
Please bring slippers.
What will happen?
Before we begin I will run through the contract with you.
I will explain how to use the VR controls, and remind you that you can instantly exit VR by taking the headset off!
If you would like me to use a certain therapeutic approach with you, while you are trying to complete the task, please describe the approach you would like me to use and provide me with a script - if that is something you would like to try?
If you find the task easy to complete I am willing to be the anxious 'client' in a practice session, by putting on the VR headset and being unable to let go of her fear. I certainly don't find it easy to override my physical responses to a virtual threat.
Please be aware that it is possible that you might fall over when trying to complete the task. If I notice that you seem unsteady I will ask your permission to support you by taking your arm. Please be aware that I might not be able to prevent you from falling even if I take your arm.
When you have had up to an hour in VR - you may want less or request more - I will ask you to remove your headset and we can discuss your experience, or you might like to journal what your have noticed about the conflict between knowing that you are safe whilst apparently being in danger.
I will post a certificate of attendance out to you within fourteen days.
