I am conducting developmental and evo-devo studies on the morphogenesis of sponges (porifera).  I am interesting in the how the interactions between developmental systems and environments drive the evolution of morphology. I also have an interest in multicellularity,  evolution of body plan, and predicting evolutionary outcome. In addition, as the initiator and organizer of the Society of Evo-Devo for young researchers (Evo-Devo no tsudoi) and as an administrative member of the Society of Young Developmental Biologists (SYDB), I aim to promote exchange among young researchers and further spread and expand developmental and evo-devo research in Japan. I am also involved in activities to convey the appeal of biology and research to society, especially to children.
