Main Summary

The film takes place July 24, 2004. The main character, John Connor, is currently living off the grid so he can't be tracked by Terminators. During the early morning of the day, 2 Terminators from the future arrive in time portals with different objectives. A T-X arrives first being sent by Skynet to eliminate the lieutenants of the human resistance. A reprogrammed T-800 is sent to protect John Connor and Kate Brewster, his future wife. Meanwhile, a new computer virus has started to spread throughout the military network. The US Air Force, led by Kate's father, believes that activating Skynet could stop the spread of this virus. What they don't know is that Skynet became self aware but Kate and John arrive too late to stop Skynet. Kate's father would ultimately die while the T-800 takes out the T-X. Kate and John are led to a VIP fallout shelter that they believed had the Skynet core. This day would be known as "Judgment Day". This is also when John knew that Judgment Day had always been inevitable.

Intent

The movie Terminator 3: Rise of Machines comes from the Terminator series that was initially conceptualized by James Cameron. The initial concept of the films wasn't related to technology in any way but he wanted to tell a fun story surrounding a certain theme. This theme was about a vision of how someone who felt dissociated from humanity at a point where they were "out of sync, out of time, out of place" [1]. It just happened that he wanted to do a robot story. From there, each movie in the series revolved to show that either Judgment Day happened or was prevented. However, the movie could also show on what people should be afraid, but companies have also been started in order to prevent something like this happening. For example, Elon Musk created the company, Neuralink, that integrates human and AI together to prevent an attack like this [2].
