Open InDesign.
Click File > New > Document.
Adjust the size, margins, and document columns to your desired settings.
Adding Parent Pages:
Click the Pages tab on the right side of your screen.
Scroll to the top of the menu and right-click.
Select New Parent.
Editing Parent Pages:
Double click on the parent page that needs to be edited.
Edit as needed.
Assigning Parent Pages:
Right click the page you would like to apply the parent to.
Select Apply Parent.
Select the parent page you would like to apply from the dropdown menu.
If you would like to apply the parent to multiple pages, select which pages in the To Pages dropdown.
Tip: You can shorten this process by dragging and dropping the parent page to whichever page you would like to assign it to.
Select the Type Tool once in the parent page.
Add a small text box where you would like the page numbers to be.
Click Type > Insert Special Character > Markers > Current Page Number.
Adding Text Boxes:
Select the Type Tool from the Tools Panel.
Click and drag the cursor to your desired size and location.
Adding Frames:
Select the Rectangle Frame Tool from the Tools Panel.
Click and drag the cursor to your desired size and location.
Start with selecting Direct Selection tool (A).
Click on Graphic Frame.
Use keyboard shortcuts to auto-fit content to the frame:
For Windows: Control-Alt-Shift-E.
For Mac: Command-Option-Shift-E.
If you want a custom fit, right-click the content and select Graphic > Fitting.
Select File > Place and locate your desired document.
Drag your cursor to the frame/text box you would like to place the text in and left-click.
Tip: Ensure the Word document is closed when trying to import text, as it will not work if the document is open.
Select File > Place and locate your desired image.
Drag and drop the image into a frame.
Resize the image as needed.
Tip: Do not copy and paste images as it will lower their quality significantly.
Creating Paragraph Styles:
Open the Paragraph Styles panel.
Open the Options menu.
The options menu is the icon that has three stacked lines.
Select New Paragraph Style.
Define the style formats using the sidebar.
Editing Paragraph Styles:
Right-click the style you would like to edit in the Paragraph Styles panel.
Select Edit and make desired changes.
Select File > Export.
Select the location you wish to save your document.
Enter a name for your document
Choose your desired document format.
Select Export once you have adjusted the settings to your liking.
