Below are answers to some of the most common questions students Lab staff. If your question is not answered below, feel free to ask a Lab Assistant for assistance.
Software specific questions are located on their respective pages.
Q: When is the Lab open?
A: The Lab is open any time class is in session. We are open 8:00AM - 10:00PM Monday - Thursday, 8:00AM - 5:00PM on Friday, and closed Saturday-Sunday. The Lab also closes any time the University is closed.
Q: Am I allowed to use the computers in the Lab?
A: Absolutely! Students are allowed to use the computers for TECM coursework any time the Lab is open.
Q: Can I print anything I want on the printers?
A: Unfortunately we can't print just anything on the printers. Lab printers are exclusively for TECM coursework, and color printing is prohibited unless you are given a color card from your instructor. If you print a non-TECM document, it will be discarded by Lab staff.
Q: Okay well if I can't print here, where can I go?
A: Students have several options on campus for printing. Pay2Print locations include Willis Library 2nd and 4th floor, GAB 330 and 550, and BLB 185 and 190.
Q: How do I check out a laptop?
A: Students can check out a laptop through WebCheckout or by asking a Lab Assistant. Refer to our tutorial located on the "Home" page for more.
Q: I need a laptop during class for the entire semester. Do I have to check it out every single time?
A: Nope! Students can create a reservation through WebCheckout or ask a Lab Assistant to do so. When asking a Lab Assistant, have your 8-digit ID# or eUID and your course time/dates ready.
Q: I can't sign into my computer. What am I doing wrong?
A: There are a few things that could be happening here. Students being unable to sign in could be a result of incorrect credentials, an incorrect domain, or a poor internet connection. Here's how you can fix these issues:
Check your username/password: Are you signing in with your 8-digit ID# or your eUID? If using the 8-digit ID#, switch to the eUID. Re-type your password, or reset if necessary.
Check your domain: Credentials right but still not working? The computer may be defaulted to the UNT domain instead of the STUDENT domain. Look below the username and password boxes. If the text says "UNT," type "STUDENTS\" and then your eUID in the username blank.
Ensure you type the backslash "\" after STUDENTS and not the forward slash "/." If you type the latter, the domain will not work
Check your internet connection: Tried everything else and you still can't sign in? Check the internet connection. Select the globe icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen. The connection should default to UNT or eaglenet. Use the same credentials as before to sign into the network if prompted.
If one network is not working, select the other and repeat.
If none of the above steps work, ask a Lab Assistant. They can help you figure out what's going wrong.
Q: What all do you guys check out?
A: The Lab checks out tons of equipment! Students can check out laptops, cameras, tripods, tables, and even classrooms! However, all of our equipment can only be checked out for TECM coursework.
Q: Can I check out equipment outside of my class period?
A: Yes, but only under certain circumstances. For example, if your coursework requires you to film outside of class for a group project, you may check out equipment during that time as long as it does not leave the building.
Q: Do you guys have a charger?
A: The Lab does not loan out individual chargers, but we do have a charging station located in Room 307. The station supports lightning, USB C, and micro USB supported devices.
Q: Do I really have to leave my food/drink outside?
A: Yes, unless the drink is in a spill-proof container. Crumbs and spilled drinks attract pests, which no one wants to deal with.
Q: Can I pleeeaaaseee bring my skateboard inside? I don't want to lose it!
A: Nope, but as of right now we have never had one stolen from the hall. If you want to keep it secure, lock it up.
