Have students practice telling time by interacting with this Google Drawing clock face.
This document shows students how to convert to different metric units. When you are converting to the larger units, say, "Toward the giants," and when you are converting to the smaller units, say, "Toward the bugs." These are references to "King Henry's Story," which students should read beforehand.
Another trick to show the kids when to multiply or divide by ten involves using your arms. When you are converting from the smaller units to the larger units, stick your arms out wide (like you are stretching bigger). The outstretched arms look like a division symbol. When you are converting from larger units to smaller units, cross your arms in front of you, putting one arm on each shoulder so that it looks like an "x" for multiplication. For each square you move in whichever direction you will either multiply or divide by 10. Tell them that 10 is the magic metric number. Post the chart and do the arm motions as you walk back and forth in front of it to visually demonstrate the shift between metric units.
