Earlier in the year, we looked at the writing of Philip Pullman and wrote a story influenced by the opening of 'The Subtle Knife'.
This week, we will be looking at the opening of the first book in the same series - Northern Lights. We have looked at the opening chapter before: it begins with a girl, Lyra, creeping through a dining hall of a college, trying not to be seen.
After this, the story moves North, to the arctic. Before we start looking at the writing this week, I thought that we should look at the title and learn about the northern lights.
