Teaching writing

When teaching writing remember these tips

1) Use the chat box and give learners plenty of time to type

Why?

The chat box allows students to type, save chat history and allows them practicing their typing skills which they will need for work in the future. Usually people type slower than they can type so try to be patient.

2) Familiarize yourself with google docs!

why?

It's free and allows groups of students to collaborate on a single document. You'll be able to see changes they have made in real time. Google docs is an excellent way to allow groups of students to type at the same time.

3) Provide written feedback to help students to improve.

How?

Google docs allows students to see suggestions/edits which you have made so that they can improve their writing

4) Use free digital tools such as screencast-o-matic to give oral feedback to students

Why?

It builds rapport with the learner and they feel that their feedback is personal (just like in a face to face class).

Oral feedback can be given using free websites such as screencast-o-matic. It allows you to record your voice while sharing your screen.
