There are many opportunities for teachers beyond what occurs in their own schools. Below I have listed some experiences that I have undertaken and others from colleagues. These are all experiences to help expand your teaching career to add an international experience, both locally and beyond.
In 2015, I traveled to Germany with the Goethe-Institut through the Transatlantic Outreach Program is available to any North American social studies or STEM educators. This is an all-expenses paid experience to tour Germany with fellow educators.
Extend your own experience by volunteering abroad through Projects Abroad. Teachers can work as professional mentors in many different fields from English, IT, Math, Physical Education and Special Education. The teacher trainer volunteer program in Cusco, Peru is particularly interesting, because you work as a trainer for local teachers.
Focused on training educators for 21st century teaching, collaboration and project-based learning as well as developing skills for global education in our own classrooms. Projects are organized with other teachers and include a teacher summit with local teachers in-country.
This professional development was the most globally minded training, right here at the University of Toronto.
