Thirty –three cadets from the Trumbull Career and Technical Center’s Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Corps OH-20051 were given an orientation flight in the C-130H2 aircraft, courtesy of the 910 Airlift Wing at Youngstown Air Reserve Station. The students were provided a preflight brief on the plan for the flight and emergency procedures. The aircrew also provided general information about the C-130 aircraft and the missions the 910th Airlift Wing executes. The base dining facility provided the cadets with box lunches for their flight. Many cadets had never flown and were nervous. However, after the aircraft was airborne they were excited to be able to get out of their seats and see Niagara Falls approximately 3500 feet below! The students were able to see flight deck operations during the flight. Numerous cadets are interested in being pilots; the pilots, loadmasters, and flight engineer answered many questions about their specialties for the students.
Senior Sidney Wolford said “While sitting in the cockpit during takeoff I listened to all of the checklists and procedures each crew person took and I was surprised by how easily they recalled each list. The entire crew worked well together and constantly communicated. You could tell that despite the fact that they were operating a giant plane they were comfortable. It was a beautiful flight.”
