Sand B-mix clay, Cone 6 fire glaze
This skull is inspired by the taxi driver from the classic Halloween Disney move "Halloweentown". In the movie the way to get to Halloweentown is a taxi ride from the skeleton himself, Benny. I wanted to create a skull that had some spark of nostalgia and innocence. His exaggerated features tell you how friendly and personable he can be, and those teeth just add to his already comedic personality. The taxi hat is a fun pop of youth in the piece that brings everything full circle. Nostalgia is such a strong force and is a special feeling that is collectively shared among generations, to spark just a little of that in somebody is magical. I used the coil techniques to form the skull and a slab for the hat. Bisque fired, painted glaze, and glazed fired.
