FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are Tuesdays the only day for lessons?

Our arrangement with Taupo Primary School (through the Ministry of Education) is to provide lessons only on Tuesday afternoons using their classrooms.

Is it possible to have individual lessons?

If any child feels they would like extra lessons, they are more than welcome to approach their tutor and request an extra lesson or two. This would be a private arrangement between the family and tutor in terms of time, location and cost, as Taupo School of Music is only able to provide group tuition.

Do you offer tuition for secondary school students?

When children start attending college, the intention is that they have instrumental lessons through their college. If we have an available space in a class at the student’s level of learning, we are certainly happy to enroll college age children.

What if my child has special needs?

We welcome all children at Taupo School of Music. If any child has special requirements, please let us know and we will endeavour to place them in an appropriate class.

Why are drums not offered as an instrument?

Since Taupo School of Music is only able to offer group tuition, it is not feasible to offer drum lessons. If enough enrolments are received and a tutor is available, we do offer percussion lessons. This teaches children how to learn to read and understand music by playing percussion instruments (not drums).
