In September, TASME hosted a student composition workshop with the wonderful Tasmanian composer, Dr. Maria Grenfell at Elizabeth College, Hobart.
The workshop was opened up to students from Year 9 to 12 with an interest in composition. We had seven students attend the event.
Maria shared about her composition Tarraleah, provided some ‘tips and tricks’ as a professional composer and spent time working with the students on pieces they were currently composing.
Students were also offered free tickets to the TSO concert the same evening which featured Maria's composition Tarraleah, composed as a tribute to migrant workers who helped build some of Tasmania's earliest power stations.
Thank you to Jennie MacDonald and Elizabeth College for hosting this event and we look forward to other events to encourage and develop our upcoming composers in Tasmania.
Our thanks also go to Jenny Compton and the TSO for providing free tickets for the students and staff to attend the TSO concert that night.
