In March, we will be working on adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers to 99, including regrouping. We will learn different strategies to solve these problems. We will also work on story problems with tables, and equality problems. Other areas we will explore learning about is rounding to solve estimation story problems involving 2 digit numbers and addition/subtraction with missing addends.
In March, we start a new unit on Critical Literacy. This unit encourages all readers to begin to question the author’s perspective, identify an alternate perspective, share personal views, and develop awareness that text can be biased.
In March, we will be working on persuasive letters. We will learn that well-crafted, persuasive writing influences the reader’s thinking, feeling, or action. We will learn that in a democratic society people have the right to voice opinions, and persuasive writing is an effective tool to impact the thinking of others. We will learn that writers use feedback from others to clarify ideas and broaden perspective in order to strengthen their arguments.
In Social studies we wrapped up our unit on Famous Americans. We learned about several presidents including Washington, Lincoln and Jefferson as well as Benjamin Franklin and their contributions to early America.
This month, students will investigate the different types of forces that cause an object's motion to change. They will learn about gravity and magnetism and how they cause objects to move from a distance. They will look at how forces apply to their lives.
Students will also be learning about states of matter, including solids, liquids and gases, including what makes an item's state of matter change.
