Math

The focus this month will be on counting objects and representing numbers through 10.

Content covered in this unit:

• Tell how many are in a given set of 10 or fewer objects by counting orally

• Read, write, and represent numbers from 0 through 10.

• Given no more than three sets, each set containing 10 or fewer concrete objects, compare and describe one set as having more, fewer, or the same number of objects as the other set(s).

• Count forward orally by ones from 0 to 20.

• Count backward orally by ones from 10.

• Identify the number after, without counting when given any number between 0 and 20.

Reading

The focus this month will be on:

• Matching our voice to the text

• Fiction and Nonfiction

• Sharing our thinking with our teachers and classmates

• Looking at the pictures to help us tell the story

Writing

The focus this month will be on:

• adding details and labels to our pictures

• becoming better writers by re-reading our stories

• sharing our favorite parts of our writing with our classmates and teacher

• writing about our daily lives

Social Studies

• Geography - using position words to tell where things are

• History - How things change over time (past, present)

Science

This month we will begin investigating and understanding basic needs and life processes of plants and animals, including:

Ants:

• adequate food, water, shelter, air, and space to survive

• plants and animals change as they grow and have varied life cycles Our focus will be on pumpkins as we continue investigating and understanding basic needs and life processes of plants and animals. We will learn:

Pumpkins:

• basic characteristics as identified by direct observation, including color, shape, and texture

• how pumpkins change and grow as we sequence the life cycle of a pumpkin from seed to mature plant
