At Sweet Home Learning Academy (SHLA), we believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and experience success in the classroom. For some children, the traditional path to learning is not the easiest one—but with the right support, the right instruction, and the right encouragement, incredible progress can happen.

Sweet Home Learning Academy was founded by Jakea Player, Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT), with a heart to serve students who need more individualized and intentional support. With over 15 years of experience in education and a Master’s degree in Special Education, Jakea has dedicated her career to helping students who struggle with reading, writing, and math to develop the skills and confidence they need to thrive.

At SHLA, our instruction is rooted in the Science of Reading and delivered through Structured Literacy, meaning lessons are explicit, systematic, and sequential. We use multisensory teaching methods that engage students through sight, sound, movement, and touch so that learning becomes meaningful and lasting.

Our academy offers two clear pathways to support students:

1. Learning Sessions provide structured academic support for students who need additional guidance to strengthen foundational skills through multisensory instruction.

2. Therapy Sessions provide intensive, research-based intervention for students with dyslexia and other learning differences.

We provide support for students with:

Our goal is not simply to help students “get by” in school. We want them to truly understand how they learn, build confidence in their abilities, and experience the joy of academic success.
