Day of Liberation
Description: Comic; Child is getting braces off
This is the happiest day of my life.
NO prisoner ever yearned for freedom more than I yearned for mine.
No iron bars have ever been more confining than the ones I just escaped.
Oh, when I think of the food I’ve missed in the last 2 years.
Today is different. Today I can eat anything I want. Make it four ears of corn for me, or caramel or gum!
I could sing and shout. I love everyone in the entire world, even my little brother.
I can laugh again, not just smile politely.
Here I am world, without the metal.
Today, I got my braces off.
Late Pass
Description: Comic; Tori tells his/her teacher why he/she is so late for class.
Sorry I’m late Mrs. Applebee, but I have a really good reason.
See, my alarm clock broke and didn’t wake me up.
By the time I got up, my mom had left for work thinking I was already on the bus.
When I got up and looked at my mom’s clock-ahhh! I already missed the bus!
I had to rush and take a shower because my dog drooled all over me in my sleep.
Then I couldn’t find any clean clothes, so I had to wear my big brother’s overalls.
I grabbed my piggy bank-phew-lunch money!
As I was running to school, I tripped 5 times on my pants.
And here I am. (Beat)
I hope I didn’t miss the test.
