Saturday, 2023-May-13:

• "Shimmy Mob 2023" - a worldwide event to raise funds and awareness to help lower the statistics of domestic abuse around the world in in your own community. Theme: "Creating Change One Shimmy at a Time." 

Shimmy Mob began in 2011 on World Bellydance Day, the second Saturday in May. Since then, it has become an annual observance. Dancers of all levels, even those with no experience, are encouraged to form teams in their local areas to learn the choreography in preparation for the "flash mob" presentation and to raise funds and awareness to support local charitable organizations that provide services to aid victims of abuse and domestic violence. 

• This year, two of our troupe dancers joined Team Willimantic CT (USA) to support United Services Domestic Violence Program. Along with team leader Jahaila (Jessica Delaney), Sultan's Delight Troupe dancers Halla (L. Domler) and Lunazul (R. Martin) and four others learned and practiced the choreography together, both over Zoom tele-video conference and for in-person rehearsals at Bloom Studio, the team's sponsor, in Lebanon CT. Some team members had little to no experience with bellydance, and they made amazing progress! The team is looking forward to supporting Shimmy Mob again next year.
