About Us
Ben Krensky
I began traveling to Ecuador after college and eventually moved there to start a white water rafting company with some friends. After living there for a year, I returned to the United States and became a Special Education teacher in Montgomery County. I have always loved traveling and learning about new cultures. When I worked at Pyle Middle School, another teacher and I took students to Japan to travel and spend time with Japanese students in the northern prefecture of Iwate. When I moved to Walt Whitman High School, I looked for opportunities to travel with students to new countries. In 2016, Ms. Zatz and I realized we both have the same passion for travel and organized a service trip to Ecuador. The trip was successful and we began planning more service trips. Eight years later, we now take students on service trips to Peru and Ecuador.

Travel never lets me down. It brings excitement, growth, and reflection. In addition to the big thrills (seeing new sights, trying new foods, meeting new people), I find that it’s the little things I look forward to. I enjoy learning the smells of a new place, reading every sign, and finding small unique quirks. There is nothing better than gaining a sense of comfort in a new place and meeting the unique version of myself that emerges. The privilege to watch students have this same experience is why I love traveling with them each year. During countless trips, I have gotten to see students realize that they have a whole set of abilities, interests, and passions that they were unaware of. I have gotten to seen them make lasting relationships that they acknowledge as special. And then I have seen them return home speaking excitedly about the experiences they had and their hopes of maintaining friendships and building upon new knowledge. I began traveling with students in 2010 and look forward to all of the adventures to come.
