Dressing for the weather:
Please make sure dancers are dressing for the weather. Long pants, shirts, and coats should be worn over their dance clothes to and from the studio to prevent injury and illness. Form-fitted dance warmups can be worn for the beginning portions of classes until the dancer's muscles warm up. Dancers can wear long-sleeved leotards and tight-fitting (preferably black) layers in class. Baggy sweatshirts, sweatpants (or pajama pants), and winter coats should not be worn in the classroom. Teachers may ask dancers to remove items hindering the dancer’s movement or the ability of the teachers to see and correct the movement.
Illness/Health Protocol
If your dancer is exhibiting signs of illness, it is imperative that you keep them home to avoid spreading it to their peers and teachers. If a dancer is repeatedly coughing, sneezing, or displaying any other signs of illness, they will be sent home. Sanitizer stations are still positioned around the studio and classrooms for your use. Common touchpoints, as well as children's props and barres, are frequently sanitized. We thank you so much for your help in keeping our dancers healthy this season!
Winter Weather Closing
We have dancers and faculty who travel from various areas to the studio each day and their safety is our priority. When the weather is not looking great, we review the forecast and determine whether to close based on the anticipated safety of the roads.
Lake Shore Dance will automatically close based on the following conditions:
-If there is a Winter Storm Warning or a Blizzard Warning
-If there is a Freezing Rain Warning-If there is a Winter Weather advisory with significant freezing rain and ice accumulations during class hours including at the evening's end
-If the School Districts Cancelled that day for severe weather
Lake Shore Dance will monitor conditions during Winter Storm Watches and Advisories. If the reports come in with slippery conditions or ill-kept roads, we will make the determination to close. We also may decide to close if more than 50% of our faculty and/or students will not be able to attend classes.
If we are cancelling classes you will be informed in the following ways:
-An email to the addresses you have on file
-On our Studio App
-On our Social Media Pages
-On local News Channels
-Website and studio postings (if the timing of the storm allows for this notification)
A snow day is factored (for each day of the week) into our yearly calendar. Therefore, tuition will not be refunded or credited for Snow Days. Your dancer is always welcome to make up a missed day in any class at or below their same class level at any of our location within 2 weeks of the miss.
