The annual Community Christmas Day dinner at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, now in its 28th year, honors the memory of a church family member who died of cancer at an early age. "They wanted to do something to honor that family member. So they helped organize the first Christmas dinner, and it's continued since then," said volunteer coordinator Carol Bryant.
This year, between 800 and 1,000 meals will be served to anyone in the community, from those who can't afford a meal to those seeking companionship on Christmas.
The community is invited to the church at 1515 S Harrison St. at noon to enjoy ham, turkey pies, and other traditional offerings. There will also be carolers and an opportunity for kids to receive gifts from Santa Claus.
