WHAT? - The Japan Festival is an annual festival held at Ypao Beach in Guam where it celebrates the unity between the people of Guam and the people of Japan while also sharing the Japanese culture. Japanese dishes & activities are shared to those who come, including cultural dances and traditions. I worked at the drink vendor, distributing drinks and stocking them up, I worked alongside co27 students.
SO WHAT? - Now, I know what it is like to work at both the front and back of the house. I mainly worked the back of the house alone and aimed to be on the hustle and make sure I'm 2 steps ahead of everybody while the sophomores tended to work at the front instead. Although it was tiring, I did a good job and got props from the adults who were running the station. When I did take the front, I seemed to be a lot more impactful this year rather than last year, as I actively looked for customers more often.
NOW WHAT? - Using my experience, I hope that with my new job at the Hyatt Regency as a wait staff, I can understand what goes on both at the front of the house and the back of the house during dinner services. This makes me know what's going on and to be more aware of my surroundings and to work harder, especially if I'm alone.
THE BEST GUARANTEE FOR YOUR SUCCESS (4/3/25)
This article taught me how to be successful. The main focus on the article was to tell us that learning is the key to success and how you should always make sure you're staying educated. Some people start staggering once they leave high school because they dropped everything they learned and stop learning altogether. You should always read, even if you no longer need to because it preps you for the future. It helps you stay a few paces ahead and always ready and encouraged.
You need to always be aware of your right and wrong, in that way you can stop doing whats wrong and start doing more right. Procrastination is a major problem that a lot of us struggles with, including me. Everyone usually gets distracted when they go on their phones, If I let go of the phone and slowly start focusing more on my studes, then I can be a completely successful person, not just in school, but in the future.
RITIDIAN BEACH CLEANUP
02/01/25
WHAT? - The Ritidian Beach Cleanup is a monthly cleanup where we walk along the coastlines of Ritidian and cleanup the trash. We are put into seperate groups and get to look around the beachside while also collecting trash.
SO WHAT? - I recognize the beauty of Guam, especially this specific area where they try and maintain the wildlife. Upon reflection, I can see that it is important to keep the island clean for native animals to have a safe environment.
NOW WHAT? - Now I am encouraged to look towards cleaning up Ritidian some more in the future, and I will try and get some of my friends to join us next time. I can also explain the importance of keeping the preserve healthy for the species that reside there.
HOURS EARNED - 5
WHAT? - The Freshman Recruitment is an activity we do annually to try and reel in freshmen who are interested in joining the GCC Hospitality Program. We were paired up into groups and we had to present the slides that Mr. Chong provided us, maintain a positive energy, and practicing our hospitality knowledge by welcoming our guests, the freshmen.
SO WHAT? - We could have done better with trying to interact with the students as they did seem very quiet and uninterested. Despite this, my group did take our time in memorizing the slides and our presentation was able to go by smoothly without much struggle. The freshmen did stay focused though and did treat us with respect.
NOW WHAT? - Now, we wait and see how many freshmen put HTMP as their first choice. We hope that we did a good job and are able to pull in a much bigger group, as we did with the Class of 27. We practiced our public speaking skills, making our guests feel welcome, and treating them with respect as they would to us.
The pineapple project is a simple project that me and my group unfortunately couldn't finish on time. We did have fun and wanted to try and make it as nice as possible, but it did take up our time and we did make some mistakes. I would say my involvement was a 4, as I wrote the script and basically directed the project. I also take responsibility for not finding enough free time for us to meet up and film, and also blame myself for not working on editing as much as I should be. As a team, we did communicate though and tried our best to make things work while we could.
I am proud with the final product though. Our aim was to make our commercial look cinemagraphic and appealing. We were planning on doing dress up and acting events out rather than just telling the story. Due to runtime constraints though, we were only able to act out one scene, but it did come out well. We also had fun and when we did film, it went by smoothly and without many mistakes. We just needed to make time in our schedules to film properly and without stress. It was simple.
Overall, other than the due date, I feel as if we did alright. Most of the times when we tried to meet up, atleast one of us wasn't available, which hurt our chances of finishing on time. But the final video came out with good quality and everyone did their parts. Jake did editing and acting, I directed, Ynah and Jaidee helped with script writing. I'm happy with what we did.
