Children learn best through hands-on activities. Encouraging kids to explore and discover more about science at home can result in messy projects and muddied household items. In spite of all this, parents and guardians must value this time in a child’s development when learning can be fun and easy.

Adults often dismiss questions from inquisitive children with the fear the young ones won’t stop asking questions. In order to foster a love for biology and all the disciplines that stem from it, adults must work hard to be patient in answering questions from kids. According to biology student Steven Rindner, exploring and discovering scientific answers together would be a great activity at home. Learning together can be a bonding time for the adult and the child. Not only will this teach the child about science, but also strengthen their relationship with their parent or guardian.

Discovering answers can lead to more questions. Just go with it. Support the child’s desire to learn more and find answers deeper than what they had just found out. The most unforgettable discoveries are often recorded. Encourage the child to record their discovery. Take photos. Write down the observation and keep it for further study.

Steven Rindner suggests providing kids with safe household items they can use for exploration and experimentation. For kids whose love for art translates into a curiosity for science, encourage using a camera to capture moments that spark interest in biology. Making one’s home a haven for learning can be tough for parents, but it will all be worth it.
