My initial design for the hoist did not work. My dad and I did not expect the top to be so heavy when pulling. My dad and I have carried that top plenty of times so we assumed both of us pulling it, we could get it up easily. Looking at this drawing we did not use any actual pulleys just eye hooks not expecting the top to be so heavy.
After doing the initial design I was back to the drawing board and researched some more. I learned that for every 180-degree turn, the rope goes through a pulley system the weight is reduced by roughly 50%. After learning that not only did I add the turn into the design, but real pullies also to reduce unnecessary friction.
This project was really easy and got done within a day. This project taught me about the design cycle and how a design might now work and you will have to iterate until you get a working design.
