Artifact Description:
This artifact is a website I created for a second-grade classroom using Wix. It contains several pages explaining the rules, procedures, and rewards/consequences that I would use in my classroom. I also explain to the students’ parents my teaching style and different strategies I would use to educate their children. This website was created in the Spring of 2020 for my General Methods class here at Trinity Christian College. It was assigned to get us used to the idea of designing our own classroom in the future.
Connection to the IPTS standard:
This artifact was a perfect demonstration for Standard 4. I never realized just how much planning and preparation goes into creating an entire classroom website. This artifact connects to standard 4 because I had to come up with strategies that will work for all different kinds of learners. which is stated in standard 4, a competent teacher “knows how to assess the instructional environment to determine how best to meet a student’s individual needs” (4E). Standard 4 also mentions that a competent teacher “creates a safe and healthy environment that maximizes student learning” (4I). I always want my students to feel safe and comfortable in my classroom and I made that extremely clear on my website.
Description of what I learned:
I learned an incredible amount of information while creating this website. One important aspect that I took away after creating my website was that importance of procedures and routines, especially for young children. I plan on using many of the ideas from my website in my future classroom. I had also had not really considered that some parents may not have the resources to check my website, so creating a letter for them was very informative. I am glad I had the opportunity to create this website and was able to retain all of this important information.
