Rationale- This is a paper that discusses the different causes and characteristics of autism.
Standard Connection- This artifact connects to standard 1 because it states that a competent teacher "understands how to identify individual needs" (1G). This paper is all about being able to recognize the signs of autism and identifying what can be done to ensure that each child receives the education they deserve.
Self-Evaluation- I believe I executed this assignment fairly well. I learned a lot while writing this paper and it was very eye-opening. I feel as if I am would recognize the signs of a child with autism and I am much more informed on the causes than I was prior to this assignment.
Autism Classroom Strategies Paper
Rationale- This is a paper that gives an insight into several different classroom strategies for teachers who have a student with autism.
Standard Connection- This artifact connects to standard 1 because it states that a competent teacher "understands the spectrum of student diversity " (1A). Students with autism require certain accommodations, modifications, and teaching strategies in order to be successful in their education. The better the teacher understands the needs of each individual students, the better he/she will be able to work with those students and give them the education they deserve.
Self-Evaluation- I gained a lot of information while researching for this assignment. I feel very secure in the idea that, when I have a student with autism, I will be able to give them the best education possible because I was made aware of all these amazing strategies so early on in my education. However, there is always room to learn more and I plan on learning about as many strategies as possible.

Rationale- This presentation was created on PowerPoint and gives a brief description of what autism is and then explains 3 different teaching strategies to implement in the classroom.
Standard Connection- This artifact connects to standard 1 because it states that a competent teacher "understands how each student constructs knowledge, acquires skills, and develops effective and efficient critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities" (1B). Autistic children learn in different ways, so it is necessary for the teacher to make changes to the way they teach. Understanding the way your students learn best is incredibly important for the success of the children. Implementing these strategies in the classroom could be very beneficial for autistic children and could make a huge difference in their education.
Self-Evaluation- This assignment provided me with so much information that will prove to be very useful as a future teacher. I believe that I executed this assignment to the best of my ability. I am thankful for the chance to have learned all of these amazing strategies and I look forward to being able to implement them in my classroom one day.
