Typically your child and their mentor will meet once a week for 30 minutes to an hour. The day, time, and specific length of these meetings will be up to the mentor and your schedules, and you will both work together to find a time that works for you.
There are many things that can happen during a session, and this is one of the great things about our program. Our mentors are there for you. Whatever your child needs help with is what our mentors can do. If your child is having a hard time completing homework, then their mentor can help with that. If you feel that your child is behind and would like them to do practice problems, then they can do that! We have built our program with you and your child's best interest in mind, and are here for whatever your child may need.
Yes! If you believe more than one child of yours could benefit from our program, you are welcome to sign both of them up.
Unfortunately no, this program is based around one-to-one mentorship, and the whole purpose is to offer better help without the distractions of other friends or classmates.
A typical session is 30-60 minutes. This will depend on the age and needs of your child(ren). Your child's mentor will discuss with you what length they believe is appropriate, and they will stick to a regular schedule each week.
1:1 Mentoring is a completely free program. You won't have to pay a cent!
Yes! We have dozens of meetings each year where we go over various teaching strategies, develop lesson plans/curriculums, and learned how to work with a variety of children. Every STEMentor agrees to the guidelines/expectations for being a 1:1 Mentor. After every single session, your child's mentor will report how the session went to both us and you. Each STEMentor is selected carefully based on the needs of your child. We make sure that we make the best fit for your child!
Typically once your child is matched, they will continue tutoring until the end of the school year (late May - early July). If you feel there is a need to discontinue the tutoring, you may email stementors.1to1@gmail.com with more information. If you and your child's tutor are both willing and able to continue after the school year has ended that is always allowed.
Once you sign up, your child is immediately put onto a list of all the people who have signed up. Once I have an available mentor to tutor your child, you will be emailed with the information and will be asked to set up a time to meet. Note that we can not make any promises that your child will be matched quickly as we can not always predict how many mentors will be available at any given moment. That said, we are trying our best at all times to match every student who signs up.
