Engage your students in The Exploravision K-12 STEM competition! ExploraVision challenges students to envision and communicate new technology 10 or more years in the future through collaborative brainstorming and research of current science and technology. Teachers can register to become a coach and then submit student work in order to win prizes. This website houses several examples of past winners, a slideshow to get your students started in a project of their own, and vidoes of students engaged in the engineering design process. Below is a slideshow presentation by Exploravision outlining the steps to get involved in this creative project.
Bioman Biology is a great website that that makes learning about biology fun! Here you will find learning games, review games, virtual labs and quizzes that will help students learn about cells, ecology, genetics, physiology, and much more. My favourite physiology digital game on this site is Respiratory Journey, a game where students trace the journey of an oxygen molecule through the respiratory system and learn about the function of each of the organs involved in transporting oxygen to our body.
Yes, bats are mammals! Like all true mammals, baby bats are nourished with milk from their mothers. Bats bear live young—usually only one, although some species can have up to three or four at a time. In 2006, a Eurasian fungus that causes white-nose syndrome (WNS) in bats was introduced into North America. This disease has killed millions of hibernating bats and it is causing the most drastic decline of a group of mammals that has ever been observed. In light of the threats facing bats, it is critically important to monitor bat populations, and Neighbourhood Bat Watch needs your help. Get your students involved by asking them to help scientists monitor bats.
