Buckling

• For joints, there is no specific recommendation for critical load multiplier!

• What to do?

  • In idea statica they divided the issue in 3 groups:

  • Group 1: Plates connecting individual members --> critical load multiplier > 15

  • Group2: Stuffening plates in the joint - stiffeners, ribs, short haunches --> critical load multiplier > 3

  • Group 3: Closed section and thin-walled sections

Group 2 --> critical load multiplier 2 or 15 or 3

For American (ASD) please multiply with 1.5

Group 3 --> always check with Local defformation with and without Geometrical nonlinearity.

For Cold-formed steel profiles --> IDEA Statica can't check buckling. It should be check Manually according to EN2993-1-3
