5-8. Once the results have been calculated a determination about whether or not to reject the null hypothesis can be made.

A paired-samples t-test was conducted to compare the pre and post blood pressure medication systolic readings. There was a significant difference in the scores for the blood pressure readings, post intervention (M=81.50, SD=9.19) and the pre-medication blood pressure readings had a (M=89.9, SD=14.02) conditions; t(9)=3.13, p=.012. Therefore the null hypothesis cannot be accepted and the results suggest that the medication can reduce systolic blood pressure readings.

Additionally, effect size must also be considered in order to understand the size of the difference for the population.
