RACES

There are numerous races throughout the year both local and afar. There are far too many to all be listed, so here are some highlights for the first quarter of the year.

Stormforce 10 (GP 1)

What an incredible purple and gold turn out today at Stormforce 10, on Sunday 21st January with 37 members running, well done everyone who took part in the race.

A few mentions, Janet Wills and Mark Sweeney for 2nd in their age categories, Séamus O’Doherty on his first 10 mile run, Sonia McLean for completing the race 12 years after her first Stormforce and a number of course PBs!

Arc of Attrition

Five of our hardy souls took on the Arc of Attrition on Friday/Saturday.  Huge congrats to you all, totally epic, inspiring, awesome...the list could go on and on!  Despite it being very tough out there Paul Johnson and Ross Buscombe both got PB's, Iain Walker completed it for a third time and beat his 2022 time, and Bradley Parsons completed his first .

It doesn't stop there, our Karina Bowers and Sophie Street did the Arc 50 on Saturday; Karina conquering the brutal race for a second time, and Sophie completing her first 50 miler. Massive well done ladies!

And while the runners were busy taking on the brutal course, STARCies were busy helping as Arc Angels, crewing and supporting.  It was great to have so many club members involved in this epic event.  Well done everyone.

Newquay 10k (GP 2)

It was fantastic to see so many of you enjoying Newquay 10k today. Lots of PBs and Janet Wills collecting another 2nd place in her age category.

Looe 10 (GP 3)

Well, not only did we need to contend with the 'Hilly and Hellish' 10 miler, but torrential rain before we started was not much to inspire people! - no official team photo, as they were taken from inside everyones cars!

Falmouth Half (GP 4)

STARC continued to have a fantastic turn out of runners at the Falmouth Half and we were blessed with beautiful sunshine. The starting loop around Pendennis Castle was a nice warm up for the rest of the hilly course, but the STARC water station at mile 12 was a very welcome sight. Well done to those who ran and all those who came to support, Janet Wills and Iain Walker got 1st age categories, Tim Adams got 2nd and Megan Rowe and Mark Sweeny got 3rd.

Fowey Tunnel 10

To end this quater of 2024, we had a fantatsic turn out of STARC runners at the Fowey Gig Rowing Club Tunnel 10 race. This is a unique race with some long steady hills but a fantastic mile running through the Imerys tunnel, the longest tunnel in Cornwall! We were very proud to see our o-5K graduates at the race, doubling their mileage and completing the 10K race, WELL DONE!

Grand Prix Series (GP)

The Cornwall Grand Prix Series is made up of a number of road and multi terrain races of various distances from 4 miles to half and full marathons, that take place throughout the year (January to November) at locations throughout the County.

Competitors have to complete at least 8 series races to qualify to compete in the overall Cornwall GP Series standings at the end of the year.

These events are a fantastic way to see the County and earn yourself a bespoke trophy. Well done to all our STARC members who took part in 2023 and made sure the races were full of purple and gold

Multi Terrain Race Series (MTRS)

This Series gives runners the chance to run on some of Cornwall’s beautiful off-road land. It consists of a number of challenging runs of varying distances around Cornwall. The MTRS series runs from the Tywardreath Trotter in July to The Gribbin 10K in June.

To achieve a Series completion award, competitors need to complete 6 races out of the series. In some years there have been differing numbers of races in the Series.

The Cornwall running website holds the race diaries for both the Cornish Grand Prix (GP) and the Multi Terrain Series (MTRS). In addition, there are links for entries and race results.
