RACES

There are numerous races throughout the year both local and afar. There are far too many to all be listed, so some STARC race highlights of the year are shown below.

Gribbin 10k

A trial event took place in 2023 for inclusion into the MTRS series this year on 27th June 2024.  This is a multi-terrain race that is not for the faint hearted. With some steep climbs and a challenging terrain that is mixed to include coast path, tarmac, meadow and of course, some steps. We look forward to seeing you again this year!

Virtual Gribbin 10k

Following on from trial Gribbin Head 10K this year, we also ran a virtual run in December. This gave people the chance to bag themselves a medal while testing their trail running skills in the mud! It was great to see runners embracing the event, getting in the festive spirit and raising money for charity. All the profits made were donated to the local St Austell Food Bank.

Imerys

The Imerys Trail Marathon and Half Marathon took place in May, offering a unique running experience. For one day only, the land of Cornwall’s China Clay industry are opened to runners who wish to take on this unique event.

Unfortunately, 2023 was the last time running of the event as the logistics and access to the very restricted areas is no longer feasible.

However, a replacement run is being planned by STARC, so watch this space!

Eden Project

The Eden Marathon and Half Marathon takes place each October, and is a collaboration between STARC and The Eden Project.  The course is a hilly, multi-terrain route on trails, paths and private roads.  It has gained a large following, with 202 runners completing the Marathon and 897 completing the Half Marathon in 2023.

It wouldn't be possible without the support of club members who help marshal this event, in return for a private ice-skating evening and entry to Eden for a year - don't miss out in 2024!

Grand Prix Series (GP)

The Cornwall Grand Prix Series is made up of a number of road and multi terrain races of various distances from 4 miles to half and full marathons, that take place throughout the year (January to November) at locations throughout the County.

Competitors have to complete at least 8 series races to qualify to compete in the overall Cornwall GP Series standings at the end of the year.

These events are a fantastic way to see the County and earn yourself a bespoke trophy. Well done to all our STARC members who took part in 2023 and made sure the races were full of purple and gold!

Multi Terrain Race Series (MTRS)

This Series gives runners the chance to run on some of Cornwall’s beautiful off-road land. It consists of a number of challenging runs ranging in distance from a 4 mile run on the beach all the way up to a full off-road half marathon on the St Austell Clay Trails. The MTRS series runs from Tywardreath Trotter in July to The Gribbin in June.

To achieve a Series completion award, competitors need to complete 6 races out of the series. In some years there have been differing numbers of races in the Series.
