I think I'd like to be confirmed, but I'm not sure what it involves. How will I know when I'm ready?

The sacrament of confirmation is primarily for adolescents and adults who were baptized as infants and now wish to confirm their baptismal promises. Confirmation is a sacrament for those who have come to a more mature understanding of their baptismal faith. It is a different sacrament from baptism and yet it is directly related to it. You may desire confirmation for various reasons. Perhaps you have had an experience of conversion or a significant deepening of your faith. Perhaps you have recently returned to your faith after having left for a time or perhaps you wish to begin a new commitment to Jesus Christ. Whatever your reasons, you will know when you’re ready because you will desire to deepen your faith and recommit yourself to your baptismal promises with renewed vigour and understanding.

Preparation for confirmation involves instruction over several weeks. The program touches on a variety of elements of our Christian faith, including: the sacraments, Scripture, church history, theology, our Anglican identity, and the Church. The celebrant at confirmation is always the bishop. The bishop will lay his or her hands on your head and pray the following prayer: “Defend, O Lord, your servant N. with your heavenly grace, that he/she may continue yours for ever, and daily increase in your Holy Spirit, until he/she comes to your everlasting kingdom.”
