ACADEMIC RESOURCE SUPPORT

Our Resource program supports all grades throughout the week. Students from Kindergarten through seventh grade are pulled out to work individually or in small groups for reading, writing, and math support or enrichment. Because of the pandemic, the need for resource support has increased. Mrs. Hines is the Resource teacher overseeing the entire program while working with students, teachers and parents. Mrs. Rebello is the Resource aide that supports students in kindergarten through second grade. We also offer a Reach program for students who are ready for additional academic challenges in math. All students benefit from differentiated instruction within their grade level so each student is challenged and supported.

St. Lucy School students also benefit from academic resources after school. Junior High Study Hall meets after school with Mrs. Hines for additional academic support and assistance in executive functioning. Monday Math Club is a drop in math club led by our Jr. High math teacher for students who need additional help with math or simply love math. Homework Club is available in the library after school for students in younger grades to work on homework in a quieter environment.

IMSE Orton-Gillingham Certification:

The Kindergarten and the Resource teacher are certified in the Otis Gillingham Reading Program which is an explicit, multi-sensory, structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive way to teach literacy when reading, writing, and spelling does not come easily to individuals, such as those with dyslexia. It is most properly understood and practiced as an approach, not a method, program, or system. In the hands of a well-trained and experienced instructor, it is a powerful tool of exceptional breadth, depth, and flexibility.
