Setup and Prep work:
On the day of the class activity students will come to class with a pre- prepared Explain Everything project that has one slide populated with at least 15 pictures illustrating key events in the life of the athlete they researched. The activity is a role play interview. Students will work in pairs of two and role play that they are the host and guest on an interview style talk show. Each guest interview should take approximately ten minutes. Each student in the pair will be an interviewer once and an interviewee once. As the interviewee they can either pretend to be the athlete or an expert on the athlete.
Explain Everything is a screen casting program (click here to see a tutorial in Arabic). It records both all movement on screen, as well sounds, in video format. Students will use the images that they placed in their projects to reinforce and guide their conversation. For example an interviewer might move a picture of the center of the screen and ask the interviewee why that picture is important. The interviewee will then give an explanation. Alternatively, the interviewee may want to explain how something and so will bring a photo of the subject at hand to the front of the screen.
It sounds complicated but it is not. Watch the video below to see an example:
Upon completing both interviews, students will go back and watch their interviews and reflect upon their videos on a Google Form. While working on their reflections' students will be instructed to upload their videos of the projects they created to the class LMS so that their classmates can see fellow projects and learn about other groundbreaking athletes from the MENA region.
Grading will be based on observed effort. The teacher will spot check the uploaded videos and look for thoughtfulness in the reflection answers.
