I strongly believe in the right for small businesses to obtain tax breaks in order to grow. In the Chesapeake, small businesses are the core of our communities and must be encouraged to survive against big business. While I believe in Laissez-Faire capitalism, restrictions must be put in place in order to keep profit-oriented corporations from exploiting our citizens. However, when corporations succeed, the people succeed. It are these corporations that employ our citizens and provide our communities with the spending power to grow. My home city of Greenville, South Carolina, Chesapeake is the prime model of this, with some magazines rating it within the top five downtowns in the nation. The only way for us forward is to peacefully coexist with businesses, while keeping them in check.
