About Sra. Dana

Start of the Camino Inglés, Ferrol, Spain. I hiked this route with my daughters in July 2014.

Edzná, a Maya archaeological site in the Yucatán. My husband and I like to explore Maya sites and attend Minor League Baseball games in Campeche and Mérida, Yucatán.

I'm starting my 30th year as a Spanish teacher at CEMS, Fall 2021. I've also taught in Bangor and at private schools in Spain, Brazil, New Hampshire, and Connecticut. I have an M.A. in Spanish from Middlebury College and I'm a National Board Certified Spanish Teacher, Grades K-12.

I really like technology and use it seamlessly in my classes. I am a Google Certified Educator, Level I (renewed in August 2020) and an Apple Teacher (MacBook and iPad). I especially like iMovie / video creation and students will become skilled users of iMovie, Keynote, and other apps in my class.

I enjoy travel and have taken advantage of various study abroad programs, such as a 2013 Fulbright teacher exchange between Pan de Azúcar, Uruguay and Cape Elizabeth. I've completed graduate studies through the Spanish Embassy teacher programs and have studied at universities in Salamanca, Santiago de Compostela, Bilbao, and Alicante, Spain, during various summers. This professional development has enabled me to develop a myriad of lessons, units, and global exchanges for CEMS students as well as continually improve my language skills.

In 2007, 2010 and 2013, I led Cape Elizabeth High School student service trips to Guatemala through Safe Passage, an NGO based in New Gloucester, Maine. The blogs of these CE trips are linked HERE: CEHS 2007, CEHS 2010, and CEHS 2013.

In my free time I like to jog, bike, hike, read, learn how to use new apps, and spend time with family. I'm especially interested in Maya history and culture, both ancient and contemporary, women's history, and folkloric games, focusing on traditional Hispanic children's games.
