Strategies
Melon Spam using 1 plot. Only moving to watering zone after all units are used. Buffer zone using move to point not move to plot. The point was few points away from the exact point. Team tried different amounts to get best points.
Weekly Progress / Log
Week 1:
In the first week, we read the game manual and started strategizing about what crops to plant and what plots to use. We also wrote basic code to understand how long it took to move and whether moving to the astronaut zone to get bonus points would be worth it.
Week 2:
We started coding and tried using different plots and crops, and eventually realized that using 1 plot and planting melons was the best strategy because melons gave the most points per second, and using only one plot would save battery and time. Also, the bonus crop was not worth it as it took too long.
Week 3:
In the third week, we started to find ways to find errors and make the code simpler. We were also trying to find more ways to move faster to the water station and others. Also, we added a function to see if the opponent was at the watering station. We then noticed we didn't have to wait to harvest the crop for wait for 10 seconds; we could go to the watering station and come back and then harvest our crop at the end, so we added an if-then statement to figure out the best crop to plant relative to the time remaining.
Week 4:
In the fourth week, when meeting up with our alliance, we learned how we could improve our code and figured out what we did wrong. We also helped test different codes to identify whether there were any errors. We then reported them to our alliance, and we worked together to fix them.
