Checking in on the new things you have been learning about the differences that exist around you and in life!
How are you feeling this week?
Tell me one or two things you learned throughout this week's lessons and activities. Something that surprised you?
Did any feelings come up that don’t usually? Any feelings, thoughts, or questions you want to talk about?
What is an example of diversity in your everyday life or school?
At Springfield Public Schools, we know our strength is in our diversity. But we can’t have diversity if everyone is the same! Marley Dias wanted to read more books with characters who looked like her, but she rarely got to see any until she launched her project to find more books.
How do you think Marley felt reading books with no characters who were girls, wore braids or had her skin tone?
Do you have a favorite book where a character looks like you?
Do you have a favorite book where a character doesn’t look like you?
If you don’t know a book with a character that looks like you, that’s okay - maybe it means that this summer you get to write and illustrate that book yourself!
