Introduction To Sprouts Montessori's Academic Curriculum
Dr. Maria Montessori—first and foremost a scientist—designed the very materials still used today in every high-quality Montessori school. These materials were intentionally created to provide optimal learning experiences for children from birth through approximately age six, during what she termed the “Absorbent Mind” stage.
During this critical period of development, a child's brain is absorbing information at a rate that is unmatched for the rest of their life. This is why a carefully prepared, nurturing, and stimulating environment—like the one we offer at Sprouts—is such a powerful foundation for your child’s academic and personal success.
Dr. Montessori instructed educators to “follow the child,” and at Sprouts, our trained guides do just that. Through careful observation and timely, individualized lessons, we ensure that each child receives what they need at just the right moment. This thoughtful approach allows us to grant freedom within limits, supporting the child as they become ready to embrace new levels of independence and responsibility.
Within this environment, children develop a deep respect for themselves, their peers, their teachers, and their classroom. These values are nurtured through lessons in Grace and Courtesy, experienced daily during Practical Life activities, Line Time, and in our Peace Area.
In a Montessori classroom, children are free to work independently or in small, collaborative groups, discovering joy in purposeful activity and growing at their own unique pace.
