For the HAP Winter 2026 Field Trip and in recognition of MLK, Jr. Day 2026, the High Achievers visited Ebenezer Baptist Church, the MLK, Jr. birth home, and the MLK National Historical Park, and the MLK, Jr. Center for Non-violent Social Change, Inc.
The High Achievers Program also visited Medieval Times for dinner and tournament!!!
Dr. Lauren Easom, GCSU Executive Director of Student Success and Career Development, conducted a Career Assessment with the High Achievers. The activity allowed for the participants to match their likes and strengths with a lucrative career choice.

The High Achievers enjoy physical activity at the Baldwin Parks & Recreation facility. The played badminton, football, threw the frisbee, basketball, and walked around the pond and the courts.
Ms. Shannon Simmons, the GCSU Director of Financial Aid, visited the High Achievers and discussed her upbringing, life challenges, educational and career choices, and plans for the future.
The GCSU Academic Outreach team visited the program and facilitated the "drinking bird" experiment. The famous drinking bird is a fascinating novelty toy that appears to continuously drink from a glass of water, fueled by the principles of thermodynamics and evaporation. It’s a self-perpetuating heat engine, converting thermal energy into mechanical work. The also brought a pet bearded dragon for display and petting.
The Georgia College Academic Outreach team, led by Mrs. Ruth Eilers, facilitated this ice cream and slushy-making activity. The participants learned about the science behind shaking the bag of milk inside of the bag of ice to make the ice cream. Of course, they ate the ice cream after the session.
Members of Georgia College Miracle visited the program as a part of the HAP Community Engagement initiative. GC Miracle raises funds and provides activities for children that are in a Children's Miracle Network Hospital. The High Achievers created cards to be delivered to those children.
