#ExchangeBank is proud to partner with Georgia College & State University's High Achievers Program for our Money Cents Financial Literacy Program. Last week, students visited the bank for the first session, where they learned the basics about their first paycheck—covering everything from gross and net income, taxes, Social Security, and Medicare to employer benefits.
Led by Missy Swicord, we also emphasized the importance of employability through good work ethic. We love being able to help lay the foundation for financial stability in these students' lives. Good money habits start early! #FinancialLiteracy #MoneyCents #WhereCommunityMatters

As part of the HAP Speakers Bureau, Mrs. Angela Criscoe, Dir. GCSU School of Continuing Ed. & Professional Studies volunteered time to visit the program participants and speak with them regarding their futures and their decision-making. She addressed the fact that the participants need to gain more confidence in themselves and how the HAP and the many activities will assist with personal growth. She stressed to them that strategic planning will assist with goal-attainment. The participants were well-engaged and enjoyed the information and messages conveyed.
The High Achievers engage in academic outreach through "Healthy Debate" activity. The participants engaged verbally with each other to ask for clarification on questions, bring up opposing or agreeing points, all while being mindful of each others viewpoints. The participants were very engaged and each student had either agreed, disagreed, or was neutral even if they didn't speak. This activity helped the students refine there public speaking skills, communication skills, critical-thinking skills, and listening skills. The topics discussed were:
1. Colleges should eliminate the use of standardized tests like the ACT and SAT for determining admissions.
2. Schools should allow students to use ChatGPT when writing essays and completing assignments.
3. School districts should allow their libraries to ban certain books.
4. Students would benefit from a shorter school day.

Mrs. Sequena & Mr. Kenneth at the 2024 Georgia Afterschool & Youth Development Conference (ASYD).
Georgia’s afterschool and youth development programs provide thousands of youth – from kindergarten through high school – with safe and enriching environments in their time outside of the home and school. High quality afterschool and youth development programs can make important contributions to young people’s development and well being. To ensure that Georgia’s young people are equipped to thrive and succeed in their lives, our afterschool and youth development programs must provide environments and experiences that benefit youth socially, emotionally, and academically.
The HAP participants practiced public speaking by standing and introducing themselves to the group and verbalizing why they want to be a "High Achiever"!
