The following are the final products from the Vintage Cameras Project with Mr. John Johnson:
The photos in this set were taken with a Canon 5DE Mark III. Canon made a Canon 5D Mark IV a few years after this one and that became the camera of choice for many professionals until mirrorless cameras were released a few years ago.

Mrs. Ruth Eilers, GC&SU Director of Academic Outreach, and her two student volunteers facilitated this science lesson with the participants. The materials used were created by "Educational Innovations". There was a drinking bird apparatus was placed at each table. Room temperature water was placed on cups and placed adjacent to the bird apparatuses. The speed at which the bird dipped-over to drink was accessed. The same actions were then completed with colder water and then with warmer water. The bird is a simple heat engine. The tail is at room temperature and is the heat source while the well head is cooling due to evaporation on its surface and is the heat sink. The hot reservoir is the abdomen, and the cold reservoir is the head. The working fluid is methylene chloride, and it is put through its cycle by transfer of heat between the abdomen and the head. As the gas in the tail expands with warming, the gas in the head contracts from cooling and the liquid rises up the neck tipping the bird over. Most participants were well-engaged throughout the activity.

The HAP traveled to the Baldwin Parks & Recreation facility to have a conversation with Mr. Trey Binion (BPR staff) and Reverend Tony Fraley (Community Leader) regarding afterschool and out-of-school programs and how they benefit program participants. The space utilized was the same activity room that was cleaned and organized by the participants during our 2025 Summer Apprenticeship Program. The High Achievers were set-up as if they were an audience on a talk show. They each were assigned a question to posed to the group. They were required to stand and present while speaking - whether asking or responding to a question. Mr. Binion and Rev. Fraley were eager to participate and had interesting insight to share with the group. The group was excited about reconnecting with BPR, one of our valued community partnerships. The session was recorded using our podcasting equipment (audio) and a digital camera (audio and visual). After the session, several participants stayed at the gym for a set of little league basketball games in support of community out-of-school activities.
