Grading Categories

Homework  30%

Connect  is the online Spanish language learning program that we will use in the course. This program has a myriad of videos and other interactive, audio, practice, and writing tools that will help us learn the language. Connect is accessed through the publisher’s website located at connect.mheducation.com

Chapter Exams (2) 20%

There will be two, multi-lesson exams during the semester. Each assessment provides an opportunity to demonstrate how well you understand the basic structure of the language and will include listening comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension and/or writing. Make sure to mark the dates of these exams in your calendar. There are NO make-ups for missed assessments.

Discussion Board and Participation 20%

In online courses, your regular participation is the equivalent of coming to a class held on campus. Participation involves logging in to our course, navigating through the content pages in a module, completing the readings and videos, participating in discussions and other activities, and submitting assignments/quizzes/exams. Your participation is not only an important part of your learning, it will also contribute to the learning of your peers. As members of our learning community, each of us has a responsibility to create an environment in which we can all learn from each other.

There will be 5 - 6 discussion board posts during the semester. These will be a combination of cultural and conceptional topics and may be in Engish and/or Spanish (specifics in the instructions). Some of these will be video posts and others will be written. This is a chance for you to interact with your classmates and practice using what you are learning in the course.

Partner Chats 20%

In order to learn to speak another language, it's important to practice with others. During the course of the semester, you will participate in seven partner chats. You will use the discussion board to look for someone (ideally several people) with a similar schedule to yours. I encourage you to work with different people!

Final Exam 10%

Your final exam in this course is cumulative and will cover lessons 1-6. The final exam will take place on the Canvas platform via the CONNECT platform. There will be multiple listening components to the final exam.
