Dynamite Düx (1988) (Optional)

This game's connection to the Sonic The Hedgehog series is all through a single line in the Sonic Championship character bios. One of the main protagonists of Dynamite Düx is Bin, a blue duck, who according to Sonic Championship, is Bean the Dynamite's father.

Flicky (1984) (Optional)

Flicky is more commonly known as one of the animals that Sonic saves at the end of every stage in Sonic 1 onward, but for those that didn't know, she starred in her own game before the Sonic series had even started thus placing this before it.

Sonic Origins Plus (Story Mode) (2023)

The first Sonic The Hedgehog games all connected in one coherent story. In an attempt to steal the six Chaos Emeralds and harness their power, the evil Dr. Robotnik has trapped the animal inhabitants of South Island inside aggressive robots and stationary metal capsules. Tails is on a quest to stop the evil witch Witchcart before she conquers an island and turns its inhabitants into crystals.

Sonic Chaos (Sonic & Tails) (1993)

While Sonic & Tails were off on other adventures, Dr. Robotnik managed to procure two of the seven Chaos Emeralds. Due to an error during an experiment on one of the seven Chaos Emeralds, Dr. Robotnik caused the other five to be flung into an alternate dimension. This series of events causes South Island to lose its bouyancy and begin sinking into the ocean. Sonic and Tails must recover the Emeralds and return them to where they belong before it is too late.

Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie* (1996)

When Dr. Robotnik holds the president and his daughter hostage, Sonic must comply to the evil scientist's demand of going to Eggmanland to stop Black Eggman and deactivate the city's generator before it reaches critical mass.

*While the movie itself is not canon (taking place in a different universe), the events shown do transpire in some fashion in canon (the main universe), as moments from this film are referenced later on.

Tails Adventure (1995)

One day, Tails was enjoying an afternoon nap under the shade of the green forest near his house until an explosion echoed through the forest. Waking up, Tails found the forest in flames while Flicky arrives, shouting about the arrival of the Battle Kukku Empire. The leader of the imperialistic empire, Great Battle Kukku XV is looking for Chaos Emeralds to conquer the world and has sent a battalion of his troops around the island. Spotting the silhouette of a giant mecha in flames, Tails mustered up all his courage to stand up against this threat and set off on this adventure!

SegaSonic Cosmo Fighter (1993)

Having moved his operations into space, Dr. Robotnik has begun hunting for space-faring Animals out in the cosmos. Armed with a new spaceship, it is now up to Sonic the Hedgehog to hunt down Dr. Robotnik and defeat the egg-shaped scientist before the Animals are doomed.

Sonic Learns to Drive (2021)

Sonic's up against a tough challenge: Driving! When the fastest thing alive can outrun any car, will Sonic have the patience to learn… or will he finally get left in the dust?

Sonic Drift (1994)

At the start line of a race, Dr. Robotnik is driving his Egg Typhoon and bragging that he is the greatest scientist in the world. The doctor is interrupted by Sonic the Hedgehog, who has come to participate in the race as well, saying that he will compete with his car rather than on foot, although he adds that he will win either way. Then, Miles "Tails" Prower comes in too, saying that he is a little confident and will try his best. As Robotnik scolds them for interrupting him, Amy Rose appears in her new car, the Breeze. However, she and Tails notice that Sonic has already started the race, and so the two go after him. Robotnik, meanwhile, brags that he will win, only to realize that no one is with him.

Sonic Spinball (1993)

The storyline of this game takes place on Mount Mobius, Dr. Robotnik's enacted his most diabolical plan yet by turning the Animals of the planet into robots by mechanizing Mount Mobius into the "Veg-O-Fortress", which utilized a Pinball Defense System, powered by Manufactured Chaos Emeralds, to eliminate intruders.

This games plot is basically the first one's again but with the addition of more competitors.

SegaSonic The Hedgehog (1993)

Dr. Robotnik traps Sonic on his island where he meets Ray the Flying Squirrel and Mighty the Armadillo. They team up to escape, and must dodge various hazards and dangers to reach Robotnik in his base, the Robotnik Tower.

Knuckles' Chaotix (Chaotix) (1995)

Some months after the incident that caused the Floating Island to grace the surface of the ocean, a mysterious island rose from the sea. Doctor Robotnik discovered the island, and found a mysterious small ring inscribed with descriptions of a lost civilization. Additionally, Robotnik discovered a Special Ring identical to the ones on the Floating Island. These Special Rings create a mysterious dimensional space filled with the Master Emerald Pillar's energy, which had crystallized and formed six Chaos Rings. Determined to unlock the secrets of the Special Rings and the power to summon the Master Emerald, Robotnik built his base, the Newtrogic High Zone, on the island. Before long, Robotnik had succeeded in crystallizing energy into his own artificial Dark Rings, which he used to power his new robot army. Mighty the Armadillo, Espio the Chameleon, Vector the Crocodile, and Charmy Bee also arrived at the island, and ended up being captured by Robotnik and Metal Sonic, and placed in Robotnik's Combi Catcher machine. Knuckles, curious about the strange island, goes there as well, and manages to rescue Espio. The two then go on to thwart Robotnik's plans.

Sonic The Fighters (Sonic Championship) (1996)

The story begins with a large quantity of robots suddenly appearing in places where peace has reigned supreme thanks to Sonic's frequent actions, and laying waste to everything. Tails suspects that Dr. Robotnik is behind this, but cannot figure out where all the robots are coming from. It is then that he receives an emergency message from Espio. In this message is a video showing that Robotnik is dispatching his large quantities of robots from a giant orbital space fortress: the Death Egg II.

Sonic decides to get to Death Egg II alone using the Lunar Fox, a single-seat space rocket that Tails invented. However, in order for the Lunar Fox to fly, eight Chaos Emeralds have to be inserted into it to act as a power supply. Meanwhile, Sonic's friends, who are spread throughout the world, are guarding the Chaos Emeralds separately so that they are not misused by Robotnik (one of them ended up being stolen by Fang in the meantime, however).

On their first stop to get the Chaos Emeralds, Sonic and Tails head over to where Knuckles is. However, Knuckles begins provoking Sonic after hearing what is going on by stating that if the Lunar Fox is a single-seater, then only the toughest among them should go. When Sonic, who believes that he is the strongest, accepts Knuckles's challenge and gets ready to fight him though, Tails forces his way in-between the two. Tails then proposes fighting fair and square in the ring, and the one who wins against all of those holding the Chaos Emeralds will ride the Lunar Fox.

Spoiler Alert To explain the 8th Chaos Emerald for those confused, at one point in the story, Sonic, along with the emerald he was holding, is cloned by Robotnik, thus creating a temporary 8th emerald.

Sonic 3D Blast (Sonic 3D Flickies' Island) (1996)

Doctor Robotnik further researches the mysterious birds called Flickies and discovers that they originate from Flickies' Island. He learns that they can travel anywhere using large rings, so he decides to exploit them by turning them into robots to help him search for the Chaos Emeralds. Sonic arrives at the island only to discover the presence of Robotnik, and he is tasked with saving the Flickies and defeating his nemesis.

*This version is truly the best with higher quality graphics, additional effects, fully 3d special stages, higher quality soundtrack, etc etc, it's just a bit inaccessible if you don't have a Sega Saturn as Sega Saturn emulators currently aren't the most amazing.

Sonic Blast (G Sonic) (1996)

South Island is a peaceful island that is protected by mysterious stones known as the Chaos Emeralds. One day, renowned resident hero Sonic the Hedgehog is resting in a hammock with a Chaos Emerald in his hand. Suddenly however, the Emerald starts to shine with a blinding light that wakes up Sonic. In front of Sonic's eyes, the Chaos Emerald continues to glow stronger and more intense, until it eventually breaks down and shatters itself into five smaller pieces that fly away.

Sonic is initially stunned from what he has just seen. Then, he hears a familiar laughter from above him, which he realizes is Dr. Robotnik. Sonic curses the doctor, but Robotnik dismisses him. He gloats that he had planned to zap Sonic with a laser beam, but he missed him and hit the Chaos Emerald instead. He then continues, saying that though he was surprised by the results, he is nonetheless going to take advantage of it by building a new stronghold on South Island called the Silver Castle, then find the pieces of the Chaos Emerald. Robotnik leaves in a good mood, confident that he has finally defeated Sonic. After that, Knuckles, who had seen all of this, appears from behind a palm tree. Unwilling to leave Sonic do all the job alone, the echidna teams up with him to find the shards of the Chaos Emerald and thwart Robotnik's ambitions.

Sonic R (1997)

After various struggles with Dr. Robotnik, Sonic and Tails are off having a leisurely time together. While on an adventure of theirs however, they eventually go to a town, where they find a gigantic screen on a building that is announcing a World Grand Prix, and that it is recruiting contestants for the race. Tails is interested in participating, if only to test himself against others, but Sonic is not into the idea. However, he changes his mind when he finds out that one of the contestants is Dr. Robotnik. He then rushes off to participate in the World Grand Prix, while Tails follows him.

At the same time, there is a spy satellite far above the ground that is scouting Sonic and Tails. This satellite is being used by Dr. Robotnik, who has found out that the Chaos Emeralds are hidden along the race tracks of the World Grand Prix. He proceeds to gloat that he has planned to lure the heroes to the race, so that, if they find the Emeralds, he will steal them for himself. Robotnik then turns around. From the corner of his eye, several cold silhouettes appear, their red eyes glowing eerily in the dim darkness. He then proceeds to laugh, saying that, this time, his dreams of world domination will become a reality.

Meanwhile, the World Grand Prix competitor recruitment commercials are airing worldwide. When they arrive, Sonic and Tails find out that they are not the only ones who saw the news of this event, as they find that Knuckles and Amy are participating as well.

Can Sonic stop Dr. Robotnik's evil ambitions? How will the World Grand Prix turn out? The answers are up in the air as the World Grand Prix begins!

*The Sega Saturn version has higher visual fidelity including it's own lighting engine that was lost after it's port to PC and Gems Collection, although you do miss out on bonus features such as the weather changing and mini games that were added to the ports so choose wisely.

Sonic Eraser is a simple puzzle game. In the versus mode, when a player gets a combination of three consecutive lineups of pieces, that player's Sonic attacks the other player's Sonic, causing them to momentarily loses control of their pieces.

Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine is also the only spin-off game in the Sonic franchise to take place in the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog universe, which ran during the game's release.
